Vintage 1960 RELPO SAMSON Artist CHRISTMAS SANTA CLAUS Ceramic Planter JAPAN 487

Vintage 1960 Santa Claus with Paint Brush. Designed as a planter but could be used as a pencil cup in your favorite artist studio. Measures approximately 5” tall and 5”wide. Just under 3” front to back.

Bottom reads SAMSON IMPORT CO (C) 1960 487 and looks to be stamped under glaze. Another area looks like an artist palate with 413. Also has original gold foil REPLO LOGO CHICAGO ILL. MADE IN JAPAN.

I couldn’t find any chips though there are a couple rough spots on inner rim that look to be under glaze. The original felt feet have protected the underside since new back in the 60’s. The cold paint is in nice condition though there is some loss on Santa’s boots and at the top of the “R” in Merry. There is some light crazing overall as you’d expect from ceramic that’s almost 70 years old. Almost MCM Mid Century Modern in design.
