Signed "L Sokoloff" near the base within the red band.
Aprox dimensions: 12" diameter
The plate is in very good antique condition with no repairs to the wood; some paint flakes and minor scuffs on the surface.
BIO:
Leonid Sokoloff, 1904-1978, was born in Iver (Russia). His father was a noble man in days of the Czars. The artist joined the White Russian Army in its battle against the Reds and served with Wrangel at Galliopi. When the White Army disbanded in Bulgaria in 1921, he entered the University of Sofia. Among his accomplishments he designed state costumes and decorations for the performances of the French Ballet company who played for the Royal Family of Bulgaria; opened his own studio in Paris on Montmarte and after migrating to America in 1935 won favorable comment and recognition of his artistry.
