The Axis 01679-001 is a four-channel video encoder that lets you keep the analog cameras you already trust while moving their video onto your IP network. It converts up to four composite feeds into digital streams, so you can manage them through modern video management software, view them remotely, and record them alongside newer IP cameras.
The encoder captures each channel at 720 x 480 resolution and 30 frames per second, then compresses the footage with H.264, H.265, or Axis Zipstream. Zipstream keeps important forensic detail while trimming bitrate, which helps you conserve storage space and reduce bandwidth costs without sacrificing evidence quality.
Installation stays straightforward. Power over Ethernet carries both power and data through a single network cable, and the built-in microSD card slot gives you local recording for redundancy or stand-alone operation. If your analog cameras have pan, tilt, or zoom motors, the RS-485 or RS-422 port lets you keep full PTZ control from your VMS.
Secure boot and signed firmware protect the device against tampering right from startup. A metal housing with an IP30 rating shields the electronics in indoor environments where dust and accidental bumps are common. Operating temperatures from 32 °F to 122 °F cover most retail shops, schools, small offices, and warehouse floors.
Whether you manage a single site or a chain of locations, the open Axis platform ensures the encoder works with a wide range of software and accessories. Add one unit today, expand later, and migrate on your own schedule while protecting the investment you have already made in coax cabling and analog cameras.
