This is a stunning large antique Japanese blue and white porcelain charger from the Meiji period (1868–1912), showcasing exceptional hand-painted artistry and symbolic botanical motifs.
The design features plum blossoms, bamboo, and additional floral elements such as chrysanthemums and peonies, all rendered in rich cobalt blue underglaze. These elements are highly symbolic in Japanese culture:
• Plum blossoms (ume) represent perseverance and renewal
• Bamboo (take) symbolizes strength and flexibility
• Chrysanthemum (kiku) stands for longevity and nobility
• Peony (botan) conveys prosperity and elegance
The rim is decorated with alternating panels of floral and geometric patterns, framing the central scene in traditional Meiji aesthetic. The back may be marked with kiln or maker’s stamps typical of the era (please refer to photos).

• Era: Meiji Period (c. 1868–1912)
