Antique 19th C Continental Papier Mache Painted Decorative Box Ornate Rococo

This is a beautiful mid-19th century Continental papier-mâché decorative box, featuring hand-painted floral motifs, shaped Rococo-style curves, and raised feet. The surface shows a wonderful aged patina with areas of wear consistent with its 160+ year age. Most likely from France or Northern Italy originally.

CONDITION
Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the description. The box shows significant age-related wear throughout. There is a missing section at the back center where the hinge attaches, causing the lid to sit loosely. One hinge nail has come out due to this loss but is still included. The painted surfaces exhibit expected wear, including notable fading to the scenic vignette on the lid and scattered losses consistent with its age.
